Modern Tiki Life: July 12, 2015

A weekly recap of snapshots documenting our adventures, happenings, eats, and cocktails.

Went for a cloudy Sunday morning run but spotted some brightness along the way.  3 miles.  Training for our 4th Disneyland Half Marathon.

Cooked up one of our Blue Apron meals.  We've really been loving these for how simple they are.  We only have to buy the basics at the store and no longer have to spend time meal planning each week.

Enjoyed our cheeseburger, arugula-watermelon-feta salad, and pickled watermelon rind.

Walked the pup (Gatsby).

Got a little fancy with our Tiki Mug Monday trying out the Pod Thai recipe from

Our Pod Thai ended up being slightly complicated but 100% delicious.

Worked from home (hello Silver Lake!).

Worked at the studio (in my Bucket Feet).

Went on some site visits.  This one was outside an office I'm designing in Burbank.

Got my custom May Designs planner.  I called it my Blog Log (like the Grog Log...get it? hehe).  Here's to (hopefully) blogging once a day!

Headed over to the Tonga Hut for Tiki...Thursday.

Drank. And drank.  And hit the 1/3 mark on our Grog Logs.

Acquired this haul of swizzles.

Headed over to check out one of LA's speakeasies after reading about it in this article about "secret" bars in Los Angeles.  La Descarga's promise of rum, cigars, and live music made it one of our top choices.  Entering through some clothes parted in a wardrobe was pretty cool too.

Philicia and Tamar came along for the adventure.  Greg too.

Overall, the cocktails were super unique and top notch.  They reminded us of the quality of the drinks we got at Latitude 29 in New Orleans.

Decided to check out the cigar lounge.

The cigars were good but on a Friday night the lounge was too crowded to really relax and enjoy.

La Descarga was pretty great but next time we'll go on a less crowded week night.

Continued with our Disneyland 10K/Half Marathon training with a 2 mile jaunt over the Shakespeare Bridge in Los Feliz.

Ventured into Downtown to check out the Renegade Craft Fair.  Waved hello to the Disney Concert Hall.

Loved these notecards from Paper Parasol Press.  Check out our other favorite vendors in our post about the Renegade Craft Fair

It was hot downtown but it was still great to discover so many cool, creative companies!

Closed out the week by finally picking up a Tiki Diablo planter at Home Depot!

'Til next week!

Wondering what we blogged about this past week?  Here's the latest:
