Review: False Idol - San Diego's New Tiki Speakeasy

Review: False Idol - San Diego's New Tiki Speakeasy

Just last month, False Idol made its debut in San Diego. Once we heard that Martin Cate (of Smuggler's Cove fame) was one of the co-owners, we were super excited to check it out. We managed to snag a reservation on a weeknight so we made the trek down to San Diego from LA to see if it lived up to all of the hype we'd been hearing. From the decor to the service to the drinks, we're happy to say that False Idol is an extremely solid addition to the Southern California tiki scene.

Annnnd We're Back!

Sorry it's been so long since we've posted. It's incredible how fast the past 3+ months have flown by. We took some time away from the blog to devote to making final plans & arrangements for our Modern Tiki Wedding, which took place on August 18th. It was such a great day for us and our guests really enjoyed the tropical theme...

An Inside Peek at the Rum Rhum Club

An Inside Peek at the Rum Rhum Club

As many of you know, we're big fans of the Tonga Hut and we've officially completed the Grog Log. Now that we've finally accomplished that year-long feat, we feel like we've graduated and can now partake in the monthly meetings of the Rum Rhum Club. We attended our first meeting on May 1 and didn't really know what to expect beyond getting to sample a few things (and we were pleasantly surprised to find that it was much more than that)...

10 Reasons Why We're Obsessed with Pillowfort's New Tropical Line for Target

Last time we were strolling around our local Target, we couldn't help but notice the fun, tropical offerings we saw in the kids' home decor section. Turns out, it features some super colorful, tiki-esque designs that we almost (or definitely) want to buy for ourselves. It's Our First Birthday!

It's been exactly one year since we launched Modern Tiki Lounge! The past 365 days have been filled with so many tiki-filled adventures on our part and we've loved every part of it. One year ago, when I wrote the first post that was featured on this blog, I was beyond excited. Tales of Our Second Visit to the Coconut Club

Tales of Our Second Visit to the Coconut Club

In early 2015, we were able to experience an amazing evening at the Coconut Club (LA's "underground" tiki supper club that pops up from time to time and is almost always sold out). It was a 3-hour tropical getaway with multiple courses for dinner and stunning cocktails that accompanied our meals. Because we enjoyed our first experience so much, we were excited to see that the Coconut Club had begun offering shorter form events (at a lower price point). We just had to check it out and, in the end, we left with our thirsts quenched while feeling happily full & very appreciative of the tiki escape. Want to know all the details? Here's how we spent our night at the Coconut Club this past August...

Modern Tiki Save the Dates

Modern Tiki Save the Dates

For those of you new to our wedding plans, we're in the process of figuring out all of the details of our upcoming wedding in August. It's going to have a mid-century modern tiki theme and we've been have a ton of fun figuring out how to carry that through every part of our plans. It's been super fun for us since we're both creative people but we are up against one major challenge: our meager budget. As a result, we've resolved to DIY as much of the wedding as possible and, to be honest, I can't wait to try my hand at flower arrangements and a custom photobooth backdrop! More recently, we finally designed, printed, and shipped our Save the Dates...

A Modern Tiki 2015 (and, soon to be, 2016!)

There have been many great things that have come out of this year business/hobby-wise...
