Review: The Golden Tiki - Las Vegas

Review: The Golden Tiki - Las Vegas

The Golden Tiki opened in July of 2015 so, compared to Las Vegas's other tiki bar, Frankie's Tiki Room, it's still fairly new on the scene. Most people will agree that the Golden Tiki feels quite Disney-like in all its details. There's music from Pirates of the Caribbean piped in right as you enter, there are "artifacts" on display throughout the place (much like at Trader Sam's), there's a talking skeleton on a pirate's ship, twinkle lights scatter the ceiling, and, probably our favorite of them all, there are Dole Whip cocktails...

Modern Tiki Wedding at the SmogShoppe

Modern Tiki Wedding at the SmogShoppe

When it came time to plan our wedding, there was no doubt about one thing: it was going to be tiki-themed. Once we started crunching numbers, we quickly realized that it was also going to have to be as DIY as possible. Since we're both creative people, we embraced our big day as one giant design challenge. In the end, everything came together in one fun, tropical-filled event that we were happy to share with our closest friends and family members. Now, we can't wait to share it with you - check it out!

Mod Palm Springs - Weekend in Review

Mod Palm Springs - Weekend in Review

From October 21-23, we attended our 4th Mod Palm Springs. We've gone every year since it was started by Rory Snyder (who also runs Tiki Caliente). Each year it's hosted by Shag (Josh Agle) and it's meant to celebrate modernism (while coinciding with Modernism Week's Fall Preview). So what exactly does the weekend entail? We're here to give you all the details...

Annnnd We're Back!

Sorry it's been so long since we've posted. It's incredible how fast the past 3+ months have flown by. It was such a great day for us and our guests really enjoyed the tropical theme...

A Modern Tiki 2015 (and, soon to be, 2016!)

A Modern Tiki 2015 (and, soon to be, 2016!)

I wrote one (ok, maybe two) resolutions last year: To get Modern Tiki Lounge up and running and to keep my head above water financially while doing so. Turns out, I have managed to do both and, for that, I am incredibly grateful. There have been many great things that have come out of this year business/hobby-wise...

Modern Tiki Wedding in the Works!

Modern Tiki Wedding in the Works!

This past Friday Greg proposed (and actually managed to surprise me big time)!  We've been together for almost four and a half years now so of course the answer was "yes."  Shortly after I had my own big question to pop: "sooooo....tiki wedding?"  And somehow, he was totally into that idea :)  So here we are just a few days into fiancedom/fiancehood/engagement and we've completely fallen down the rabbit hole of venue searching and event planning...

Tales of our San Francisco Tiki Adventure

Tales of our San Francisco Tiki Adventure

A while back, I wrote a post about the top 8 tiki destinations we wanted to check out in California. Many of them were located in and around San Francisco so, when we had a wedding to go to up there this past May, we decided to try to hit as many tiki bars as possible. We didn't get to as many spots as we had planned but we still had fun on our little road trip...

3 Great Tiki Drinks to Serve at Your Next Party

3 Great Tiki Drinks to Serve at Your Next Party

When I debuted Modern Tiki Lounge at Keystone Art Space's Open Studios this past weekend, I decided I needed to serve some legitimately good tiki drinks.  There was a whole taste-testing process (I'm talking somewhere between 12-15 drinks!) that happened at home days in advance.  Thanks to the feedback from Greg (my, thankfully, willing +1 to most things tiki) and Tamar (who has some on-point taste buds and her own blog, Tam Thyme), we were able to arrive at three solid options: Saturn, Chief Lapu Lapu, and Mr. Bali Hai...
